NJ Sets New Strict Regulation
In 2020, the NJDEP adopted an
EPA Lifetime Drinking Water
Voluntary Health Advisory – 70 ppt enforceable regulation or Maximum
Contaminant Level (MCL) standard
Screening Guideline Level – 40 ppt
for PFOA of 14 ppt which
NJDEP Creates New MCL - 14 ppt significantly lowered the limit from
its former guideline of 40 ppt.
Only 7 out of 50 states (NJ included) currently have enforceable
drinking water standards for PFAS. They are far more stringent
and far lower than current recommended guidance set forth by
the USEPA. The USEPA has announced that it will be proposing
MCLs for PFOA and PFOS.
