It has been agreed that:

- aircraft flying VFR set the code 7000.
- aircraft is in an emergency; the code 7700 is set.

- aircraft has a radio failure; the code 7600 is set.

- aircraft is subject to unlawful interference (hijacking), the code 7500 is set.

Today, we have gone a step further, as the brand new transponders broadcast
the aircraft's call sign, e.g. OY CTZ. This is called mode S (SIERRA).

The latest system provides the air traffic controller with this information directly

on the computer screen, so that he is immediately aware of the aircraft's

identification and altitude, and whether it is ascending or descending in altitude.

In addition, computer systems generate vectors that show the aircraft's position

in time, based on the current flight direction and speed. The air traffic controller

can then see whether there is or will be conflicting traffic.

Allocation of an individual SSR code to a VFR flight does not imply that the flight

is continuously monitored on radar, or that the flight has received clearance to
approach areas in which VFR flights must be operated as controlled flights

pursuant to the air traffic regulations, BL 7-1, section 4.6.1.1.
