1.8 Certification of aircraft and pilots

                                                                         (Luftsfartsret 5 - 1 video)

1.8.1 Classification of aircraft by category and class

When we talk about something flying in the air, we can refer to it as an aircraft,

regardless of what it is. This section deals with aircraft and their classification

                into categories and classes.

                1.8.1.1 Aircraft

An aircraft is a device that is carried aloft by the influence of air, except for

devices that are supported solely by direct air influence on the surface of the

                Earth.

Is a hovercraft an aircraft? No, because it is supported by the air's influence on

                the ground surface.

                1.8.1.2 Aircraft category

Aircraft can be divided into several categories.

A categorization of aircraft according to specific fundamental characteristics,

such as airplanes, VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, helicopters,

                airships, gliders, hot-air balloons.

The category we use in the air is called "airplane."

                1.8.1.3 Airplane

A power-driven aircraft that is heavier than air and is primarily supported
during flight by aerodynamic reactions on surfaces that remain fixed as long as

flight conditions do not change (does not include motorized gliders, which are

                defined separately).

For classification purposes, this category refers to an airplane with one pilot

that does not require a type rating.
