Human Performance
2.4.1 The central and the peripheral nervous system
The nervous system consists of two parts:
- A central system
- A peripheral system
2.4.1.1 The central nervous system
The central nervous system
consists of the brain and spinal
cord, both made up of nerve cells
and nerve fibers.
The brain is divided into different
areas with specific tasks.
For example, one area controls
the sense of touch, while others
control movements, fine-tune
actions, or regulate the body's
hormone glands.
Connections between these areas
allow signals leaving the brain to
be influenced and coordinated by
multiple regions.
The spinal cord transmits signals
to and from the brain and the rest
of the body.
It consists mostly of long nerve pathways that carry impulses up and down from
the brain.
