Human Performance
If a peripheral nerve is damaged, it dies back to the spinal cord. While it may
regenerate at a slow rate (1 - 2 mm per day), this regeneration is limited, often
leading to permanent damage.
Due to the complexity of the nervous system, injuries can cause various
symptoms, such as:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Loss of balance or coordination
- Weakness or numbness
- Memory loss
- Difficulty understanding or processing information
- Seizures
- Loss of consciousness

The following sections will examine the senses individually.
We have several senses, including: Balance, Vision, Hearing, Smell, Taste,
Touch.
Smell, taste, and touch are briefly covered as they rarely play a significant role
in aviation.
We will now explore the key senses in detail.
