Human Performance

If you get lost in a cloud, in a panic situation you will think that where it is

brightest is up. However, this is not always the case but must be an instinct we

                have developed.

2.5.2.1 Approach to uphill sloping runway

Unconsciously, you try to have the same image of the runway that you are used

to and can thereby make an approach that is too low to a runway that slopes

upwards, because you think you are higher than you are. This happens because

the brain assumes (based on experience, etc.) that the runway is like the terrain

in front. This can mean that you land too hard or before the runway.

2.5.2.2 Approach to downhill sloping runway

Conversely, a downhill runway may give the illusion of being too low, leading to
a high approach and possibly running out of runway for landing.
