2.4.2.1 Karup - Control Zone

At first glance, it may be difficult to see the heights of the various airspaces on

the flat map. But they are written on.

And the flight height is decisive for who we should contact.

If, from report point Ikast to EKSV, we fly below 1500

feet above MSL (Mean Sea Level) then we will pass

Karup's CTR (Control Zone). The control Zone is

colored faintly with a red tint on the map

At the top, up where it says Viborg, you can see that it says CTR and a D. This

indicates that the control zone is classified as D airspace. More on this later.

A control zone is created around an airport where you want to protect air traffic

flying to and from the airport. All control zones in Denmark are Class D airspace

and go up to an altitude of 1500 feet above MSL.

2.5 Air traffic services

We are now on the plane and ready to depart from EKHG. We therefore want to

get in radio contact with the airfield.

To get information about Herning airport, we can go to VFR Flight Guide Danmark

On the page with the VAC (Visual Approach Chart) you can see at the top:

We need to find the name and frequency of the radio station.

We can see that the radio station is called Herning Radio and the frequency is
121.005 mHz.
