o When we perform flight above the "transition altitude" it must be
performed in relation to the default setting of 1013 hPa. Thus,
everyone flying above the transition altitude, which is 3000 feet
above MSL (except in Copenhagen TMA, where it is 5000 feet above
MSL) will fly with the same altimeter setting. It's smart, because the
air pressure can easily vary by 10 hPa from Skagen to the border to
the south.
o When flying above the Transition Altitude, you are flying in "flight
levels" for cross-country flight.
The illustration here above shows a sketch of the relationship between clearance
heights and clearance levels and setting the QNH. (sorry for the language)
2.6.2 Flight Levels
All flights operating under VFR (Visual Flight Rules) above the clearance height
must, when operating cruising, follow the rule that there are certain levels to fly
in when flying in an easterly direction and other levels to be used in a westerly
direction.
Here is how VFR travel is carried out. It is
called the East-West rule.
