Nabankema
Nabankema is a song inspired by the desires of life that hit us
sometimes. The name Nabankema is actually a girls name,
but also rhymes with a word ‘Okukema’ which means tempta-
tion. The song exploits the possibility of a beautiful girl catch-
ing the attention of a young man who has a choice to concen-
trate on her or focus on what should take him forward in life,
for he is not thinking about commitment at the moment. It is
an Afro-fusion with what is known as a ‘Chacacha’ beat with
its origin from Zanzibar and Mombassa.
Nabenkema is sung in both English and Luganda, and the
Luganda part ‘Nze ndekka’ just means ‘Leave me alone’. This
song was produced and mastered in Uganda at the Nation-
al Theatre Studios. It got quite a good reception among the
audience and was requested frequently on radio and has re-
ceived massive air play. The song has just got a musical video
released in March 2020 and it is quite a colourful one.
Boney Kross is a musician who has been in the global music
scene for quite a while, plying his trade in Africa, Europe and
now Asia. He is a Taiwaneese resident who loves connecting
cultures with music. He focusses mostly on Reggae music and
Afro-fusion but also does a few
covers in bar gigs. He plays the majority of instruments and
also has much experience in teaching both Classical and Con-
temporary music.
