Gianna Glatz Named Big Ten Defensive Players of
the Week
Field Hockey Sep 23
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Following a 2-1 win over No. 6 Princeton on Friday night that tied for the highest
ranked victory in program history, No. 21 Rutgers field hockey was recognized with a weekly honor
from the Big Ten Conference on Monday. Junior goalkeeper Gianna Glatz was named the Big Ten
Defensive Player of the Week.
Glatz made five saves and allowed just one goal in the road victory. After the Tigers scored three
minutes into the game, Glatz held them off the board from there, sparking a comeback victory for RU
despite being outshot 10-4. Glatz made a number of big saves to prevent Princeton from scoring,
include a save with 36 seconds remaining to preserve the victory.
The Medford, N.J. native earns her fourth career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolade,
previously claiming it three times last season. That includes one after last season's win over No. 6
Princeton when she had seven saves in a shutout win. This is the second Big Ten weekly award of the
season for Rutgers, after Austyn Cuneo was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week earlier this
season.
