PISCATAWAY – A school-record 87 Rutgers
University student-athletes were recognized
by the Big Ten Conference as 2018-19
Distinguished Scholars on Tuesday. Field
hockey's Nicole Profita earned her third
selection to the prestigious list while also
maintaining perfect 4.0 grade point
averages during the previous academic
term. Twenty Scarlet Knights with perfect 4.0
GPAs in 2018-19 and 34 repeat selections
highlighted the list of student-athletes
representing 22 RU athletic programs. Since
joining the Big Ten in 2014-15, 365 Scarlet
Knights have been recognized as Distinguished Scholars.
Established in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program, Distinguished Scholars must have
earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full
time for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum
GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
Tuesday's announcement follows a school-record 276 student-athletes earning Academic All-Big Ten
honors in 2018-19, comprised of 145 in the spring, 46 in the winter and 85 in the fall. The Academic All-
Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.
