Field Hockey Schedule Announced
Field Hockey Jul 30
PISCATAWAY, N.J – Rutgers field hockey announced its 2019 schedule today, unveiling an 18-game slate for
the upcoming season. The season begins on August 30 at home against Maine.
"We're excited to announce this year's 2019 field hockey schedule," head coach Meredith Civico said. "It's a
very balanced schedule that will challenge us and allow us to gain valuable experience before getting into
Big Ten play. We're looking forward to playing Maine on opening weekend, they're always a really great
team. They've done well nationally over the last couple of years. Princeton is always a great matchup so
were looking forward to playing them Friday night at Princeton before we take on Maryland in our Big Ten
opener."
The Scarlet Knights will face eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season: Monmouth, St.
Joe's, Michigan, Iowa, Princeton, Penn State, Maryland and UConn. The schedule includes a pair of teams
that faced each other in the NCAA Semifinals in Maryland and Princeton. RU will face a total of 10 teams
that finished in the top-25 last season (Maine, UConn, St. Joes, Delaware, Princeton, Maryland, Iowa, Ohio
St., Michigan, and Penn St.).
Rutgers is looking to build on a landmark season last year that included 13 wins, the most since 2008 and
third most wins in school history, as well as the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1986.
The Scarlet Knights set a program record in 2018 with five ranked wins, including two top-10 wins.
Rutgers will also play an exhibition game at home against Syracuse the weekend prior to the season. The
Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Penn State, beginning on November 7.
Information on which games will be nationally televised and which games will be live streamed will be
announced at a later date.
