Dear Emi,
“I want to play Field Hockey for a Good Division I program.”
Sports are so much more than winning and losing games.
There is an understanding, that to compete, teammates must work together, understand each other,
relate to each other, and in some way learn to care about each other. If achieved, this can be
translated into a team that may or may not be win all the time but will be always be successful in life!
Since you were in the Seventh grade you dedicated a large portion of your life to Field Hockey. You
worked hard to excel and be the best you could be. You worked hard to be a good teammate and
help your teams be successful. Mom and I never saw you put yourself above anyone else, but we did
see you reach out to others to help them succeed.
You worked hard when you were challenged personally, but you never stopped being the caring
person we always knew and loved. You faced adversity and overcame it!
You stayed true to yourself and achieved the Goal you set in the Seventh Grade.
You see Emi, you may think your career is over, but it is not! What you and your teammates achieved
was more than sports. You all have created Friendships- protect them and don’t let anyone go!
You all have created Memories- always cherish them! You all have had Success- enjoy and share your
achievements! Create a Chat Group- “ The Lucky Ones”
The last time I saw you play Field Hockey for the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers I noticed after the game you
kneeled at midfield at State College. You were looking around for about 5 minutes reminiscing about
you career and how far you had come. You then got up and walked off the field to be with your
teammates, your head held high and with confidence. I told Mom and she was sobbing on the phone
all the way from Grandma’s house in England! She cherishes you!
I had a tear in my eye; I knew you made it back!
P.S. I need a Rock for the collection!
We love you Emi! Mom and Dad
