Austyn Cuneo Named NFHCA National Offensive
Player of the Week
Field Hockey Oct 30
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After leading the Scarlet
Knights offensively in a two-win
weekend, Austyn Cuneo was named the
national Offensive Player of the Week by the
NFHCA. Cuneo had two goals and two assists,
factoring in on every goal as RU defeated No. 7
Michigan (3-0) and Temple (1-0). The senior had
a goal and two assists in the win over the No. 7
Wolverines, RU's highest ever ranked Big Ten foe
defeated, then celebrated her Senior Day with
the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter to
defeat the Owls.
Cuneo was previously named the Big Ten Co-
Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The
back helped the defense hold its opponents
scoreless in back-to-back shutouts, securing a
four-game winning streak, with three of those
wins over Big Ten teams.
The NFHCA recently selected Cuneo to play in
its Senior Game. This is just the second time RU
has earned a weekly player of the week award
since the NFHCA started the awards program in
2016. Cuneo had previously earned Honorable
Mention recognition nationally following the first
week of the season.
For the season, Cuneo has set career-highs with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points. In 50 career
games at Rutgers, she has scored 18 goals and added 15 points for 51 points.
The Scarlet Knights moved up to No. 16 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll, the team's highest ranking of the
season, and are 13th in the NCAA RPI. The team will conclude the regular season at Penn State on
Sunday, then return to State College for the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals on November 7.
