66 The Real Work of Data Science
Phase III: Group Presentation
Each team delivers a presentation on its selected case study.
1. Workshop participants rate the presentation using the eight dimensions presented earlier.
2. Summarize all ratings and engage in open group discussion.
Implications
This chapter aims to help you continue the process of teaching decision‐makers that we started
in the previous chapter. Decision‐makers evaluate data scientists and their work every day,
even if only informally. Best to help them understand more formal criteria (e.g. InfoQ) on
which to do so. Finally, even the best data science involves trade‐offs, and formal criteria can
help you hold the right discussions more proactively.
We can’t say it frequently enough – the real work of data scientists and CAOs involves
helping decision‐makers become better, more demanding consumers of data science.
