Membrane Bioreactors (MBR’s)
Periodically, an MBR system needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
Thorough cleaning is accomplished by removing the racks of membranes, lifting
them out of the mixed liquor and submersing, or washing them with sodium
hypochlorite, citric acid, or other available industrial cleaning products.
During rack removal, the Operator must inspect each of the tiny tubes for visible
holes, cracks or breakage, using a sealer and injection device to repair the
damaged tube.
Once a damaged tube is repaired, it will only function from the point of the repair
downstream (effluent discharge side).
