Package Plants
Package Plant Operation
Simple package plants do not include grit removal. As a result, compartmental tanks
need to be drained and cleaned with frequency, or grit accumulation will in time cover
air diffusors, reduce volume capacity and hydraulically short circuit treatment tanks.
Pumping sludge is achieved by either submersible pumps, or by an air lift system. Air
lift systems as operated with compressed air, allowing sludge to be lifted and moved
in or out of a treatment tank. Air lift systems are dependent on clean airways, a
reliable air compressor and clear sludge piping.
Sludge Wasting is achieved by pumping, or air lifting mixed liquor from the aeration
tank to the aerobic digester tank. Wasting should never be intuitive or a guess, but
instead should be calculated based on an established sludge residence time SRT.
