Package Plants
Sludge Thickening is achieved by allowing the aerobic digester tank to settle by
turning off the air, allowing time for the sludge to settle.
After the sludge settles, the clear supernatant can be decanted and pumped to
the head of the plant for retreatment. Decanting helps thicken the aerobically
digested sludge. The diligent Operator will sample and analyze the digester
decant to ensure it is not high in TSS or BOD.
Sludge Removal is a predictable event that can be scheduled in advance based
on daily calculated sludge wasting volumes and sidewall site measurements of
weekly decanting.
Sludge removal of Package Plants are typically provided by a licensed septage
hauler, who will transport the sludge to an approved site or to a larger approved
treatment facility.
