Advanced Nitrification
Nitrifiers need age (Higher SRT) time (Extended Aeration) food
(Ammonium and Nitrite Nitrate) pH (6.7 to 7.5) and Temperature (above
10 to 12 C) to thrive.
Nitrifiers are temperature sensitive. Colder winter wastewater
temperatures below 10 C inhibit nitrifiers. Many wastewater facilities
have seasonal regulatory nitrification removal requirements because of
seasonal wastewater temperature limitations.
