Stabilization Ponds & Sludge Lagoons
Anaerobic Sludge Lagoons
Anaerobic Sludge Lagoons are deeper than Facultative Sludge Lagoons,
providing long detention times for the sludge to digest and break down.
In the absence of oxygen, the sludge in an Anaerobic Lagoon will ferment,
smelling like rotten egg odors produced from hydrogen sulfide.
Anaerobic Sludge Lagoons are typically located in remote areas. Anaerobic
Sludge Lagoons must be dredged regularly to manage sludge inventory.
