Pond Operational Strategies cont.
Nutrient removal, such as the reduction of ammonia to nitrite and nitrate takes
aeration and time.
Operating Ponds in series allows a greater detention and residency time as flow
runs through each Pond before being discharged.
Pond treatment effectiveness can be enhanced through recirculation of treated
water. When operated in parallel, recirculation extends limited wastewater
detention under high flow conditions. When operated in series, recirculation can
enhance the quality of the effluent by extending detention time.
