Sludge Age Control
Biomass growth rate is affected by the amount of food (influent BOD
loading) and by temperature.
Sludge age is controlled by measured wasting of excess biomass
population. As a result, there is no fixed Sludge Retention Time (SRT) an
Operator can set and forget.
Biomass inventory is controlled by targeting Food to Mass ratio (F/M)
expressed as pounds of BOD (Food) divided by pounds of
Microorganisms (Mass). F/M, coupled with SRT will help retain the ideal
microorganism population.
