Aeration Contact Time

Detention Time defines the estimated residence time of biomass existing within a

treatment system.

Contact Time defines a segment of time in which the wastewater (food) and

mixed liquor biomass are in contact with each other under aeration.

Microorganisms need to first adsorb (where the food sticks to the cell wall) and

then absorb (intake and digest food).
