Pumps and their Applications
A Check Valve is installed just downstream from a centrifugal pump discharge.
The check valve protects a centrifugal pump from spinning backwards when not
in service.
When the pump is operating, the check valve is open.
When the pump is not in operation the check valve closes, often with the help of
a spring, or counterweight assembly.
