English System Common Units & Conversions

The common units used in the English system consist of the following.

Mass: pounds or lbs.

Distance: inches (in.), feet (ft), yards (yd.) or miles (mi.)

Volume: gallons

Temperature: degrees Fahrenheit or °F

For the units of distance, the following conversion factors apply:

- 12 inches per foot

- 3 feet per yard

- 5,280 feet per mile (or 1,760 yards per mile)
