Conversions within the Metric System cont.
When converting from one unit to another, use the box on the preceding page to determine
which way to move the decimal. For each unit you move to, you must move the decimal point 3
places in the same direction.
For example, to convert g to mg, or g =? Mg, do the following:
- Place your finger on the “g” then move your finger to the “mg.”
- By doing so, you moved your finger to the right as demonstrated by this figure:
Therefore, move your decimal to the right, 3 places.
1.000 g = 1000 mg
