Conversions within the Metric System
To convert units within the metric system such as grams to milligrams or
kilograms, move the decimal point 3 places.
By moving the decimal point 3 places to the right, you are essentially
multiplying by 1000. If you move the decimal 3 places to the left, you are
dividing by 1000.
Each time the decimal is moved 1 place, you are dividing or multiplying by a
factor of 10.
