flap that remains hinged cranially. Occasionally, other directions of
meniscal tearing occur, resulting in radial tears and also in horizontal
cleavage tears.
The treatment of bucket-handle tears is challenging and a sequential
approach is recommended to enable removal of the lesion without its
premature dislodgement, which compromises the arthroscopic view and
subsequent safe and controlled removal of the torn fragment. Once the
meniscal tear is visualised, prior to commencing removal, the arthro-
scopic window around the lesion should be evaluated and, if necessary,
enlarged through additional shaving of proliferative synovium and fat
