2.4 Slide Staining
VetBooks.ir Stains most commonly used for routine skin cytology are Romanowsky type stains; these include
®
rapid (e.g. Diff-Quik ) and Wright-Giemsa stains. Staining protocols may differ according to
the manufacturer. Note: before staining, slides should be rapidly air-dried.

uted on the slide, which has the classic ovoid-shaped appearance. The slide on the right is considered suboptimal:
it is not properly labelled and it is too thick because of an excessive amount of material present on the slide and
insufficient smearing.
