is shorter than the upper jaw and the incisors do not meet (Figure 2.5). Thereafter, youngsters
should be inspected annually to check for sharp points and to ensure that the permanent teeth
VetBooks.ir are erupting normally and that the temporary ones are being shed. Removal of retained
deciduous teeth and minor corrections should be performed as appropriate. Wolf teeth that
are likely to cause a problem may be removed before the horse comes into work.

Once a horse is in work, the teeth should initially be inspected every 6 months. It may
then be possible to extend the period to 9 or 12 months if no problems are encountered.
