APRIL is produced by monocytes, dendritic cells, T cells, and
VetBooks.ir intestinal epithelial cells. They bind to the same or related receptors

on B cells. BAFF is expressed on the cell membranes of antibody-
producing cells but can be cleaved off as a soluble cytokine. It

functions in both situations. APRIL only functions as a soluble
cytokine. They both promote B cell division and inhibit their
apoptosis. Both BAFF and APRIL are crucial survival factors for B
cells and essential for their production and differentiation.

Overexpression of BAFF results in severe autoimmune disease.
