QUITTOR



  VetBooks.ir  Quittor is the name given to chronic infection of a collateral cartilage of the horse’s foot.




        Causes

        It can be caused by:

        •    a penetrating injury

        •    a wire cut

        •    a blow or brushing injury to the cartilage
        •    the cartilage being trodden on by the opposite foot or by another horse

        •    a long-standing deep quarter crack or infection of the white line.



        Clinical signs


        These include:
        •    variable degrees of lameness

        •    one  or  more  discharging  wounds  above  the  coronet  adjacent  to  the  infected  cartilage

             (Figure 6.60)
        •    heat and swelling over the area

        •    pain when pressure is applied.
