Distortion of the hoof at the coronary band and the wall which may develop an abnormal
        •

             foot (Figure 6.62).
        •    Discharging  tracts  may  form  due  to  infection  entering  at  the  white  line;  the  pus  may

             escape at the coronary band or from the sole.
        •    The affected region is variably sensitive to hoof testers.

        Diagnosis


        The diagnosis is made on the clinical examination and confirmed by radiography. Pressure
        from the keratoma may cause resorption of bone from the pedal bone. This shows up as a

        semicircular defect with a smooth outline at the margin of the bone.



        Treatment

        Treatment  involves  surgical  removal  of  all  abnormal  tissue.  The  hoof  wall  is  resected  to
