        TREATMENT

        The treatment depends on:
        •    the location of the fracture

        •    whether the fracture is simple or in many pieces

        •    if there is a wound overlying the fracture site

        •    if infection has entered the wound and become established in the bone.



        Uncomplicated  fractures  with  little  displacement  of  the  distal  third  of  the  splint  bone

        usually  heal  well  with  support  bandaging  and  6  weeks  of  box  rest.  The  bony  callus  that
        develops  as  the  bone  heals  often  remodels  leaving  only  a  small  bony  lump.  If  there  is  a
