First signs may include:
• raised temperature up to 40.5 °C (105 °F)
• watery discharge from one or both nostrils
• dullness and lethargy
• slight enlargement and tenderness of submandibular and retropharyngeal lymph nodes;
the region below the horse’s throat may appear slightly swollen
• a soft, moist cough
• slight increase in respiratory rate
• loss of appetite.
As the disease progresses:
• the nasal discharge becomes thick and yellow
