•    In the summer months some horses are affected by a form of pastern dermatitis known as

             leukocytoclastic  vasculitis,  which  occurs  in  the  absence  of  mud.  It  is  an
  VetBooks.ir  immunemediated  condition  thought  to  be  associated  with  exposure  to  sunlight  or
             environmental irritants such as buttercups. The lesions frequently extend up the cannon

             bone, and the legs may be swollen and painful.
