Warning
Never treat a painful eye with drops or ointment that was not specifically
prescribed for the horse following a veterinary examination. Some ointments
contain corticosteroids which delay healing and leave the eye vulnerable to serious
secondary infections. The eye may never recover from inappropriate treatment and
have to be removed.
Stable management
The horse should be kept in a darkened box and the environment should be as dust-free as
possible. Soaked hay should be fed from the floor.
