9.3 → DIAGONAL/SCISSOR BEATS
A precise execution of these beats in addition with a “Hula movement” at the right moment, will have some “visual similarity” with some of the movements of the pommel horse in artistic gymnastics.
A deep understanding of the “pendulum motion”, as well as proper technique and an explosive pull-up at the right moment, will be crucial in lengthening the weightless momentum and favoring the fluidity of the Hulas.
9.3.1 TECHNIQUE
To start this skill, we perform small beats while relaxing the hips and waist. We then gradual- ly scissor the legs (forming an “X”), making sure we keep the torso parallel to an imaginary wall outlined by the rope in front of us. The top leg bends forward (pike) while the bottom leg ex- tends back, opening the hip.
