Bissell Store Lot Property Update

In March of 2021, the Town of Newcomb was notified
that the underground gasoline fuel tanks used on the

Bissell Property needed to be removed and the soil re-
mediated. Environmental & Fueling Systems, LLC (EFS)

was hired to oversee the project and has just complet-

ed the groundwater sampling required by the New
York State Department of Environmental conservation.

Based on the results of the quarterly groundwater an-

alytical testing, as well as the initial remediation
efforts at the site, it appears the source of the ground-

water contamination has been removed and through

natural attenuation and constant groundwater flow
through the site, the petroleum contamination en-

countered during the tank removal has been removed/
remediated.

Any residual contamination that may remain at the

site will most likely continue to decrease in concentra-

tion due to natural attenuation and the natural dilu-
tion caused by the groundwater flow at the site.

EFS is requesting the DEC spill file for this site (21-

00407) be classified as “Closed, no further action re-
quired”.
