Historic Welcome Center Update
Discussion and planning for this began over ten years ago and
on March 10, 2020 the Town Board agreed to go forward and
accept a grant award to fund this $1.5 million dollar project.
The projected cost have doubled due to inflation and the DOS
has encouraged the Town to submit a new Consolidated Fund-
ing Application that is due July 2022. At our May 10, 2022 Reg-
ular Board meeting, a resolution to apply for additional funding
was approved. If the town is approved for this additional grant
funding it would cover the cost increases.
The harsh reality is the recovery of our economy is going to dic-
tate how the Town Board ultimately moves forward with this
project. The deadline for project completion is 2026, and there
is no way to determine if additional funding will be awarded.
The advisory committee established in 2020 will be meeting in
July to discuss future planning alternatives.
