TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF
I n the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, our Family
Strengthening Team reached out to Ashley
Davis because the Florida Department of
Children and Families was hiring temporary
workers to help with the Emergency Food for
Florida Program. Ashley was such an invested
and dedicated worker that DCF made the
decision to hire her for a permanent full time
position. Only three out of 500 temporary
workers were hired for full time positions and
Ashley was one of them. This switch has helped
her economic situation as well as her physical
and mental health.
This professional success happened because
Ashley was so involved at Jack & Jill Children’s Center: “When I first visited Jack and Jill Children’s
Center, I thought of it as just another daycare. Then, I began to participate in the classrooms, as well
as different workshops that Jack & Jill had available. I began attending the parent council meetings
where I learned all about what I call ‘All Things Jack & Jill’. My family’s life as well as my own has
changed significantly with the help, efforts and beliefs that Jack and Jill has given me. Through Jack &
Jill, I have gained the strength, knowledge, and courage to know that as a parent I can make a
difference once I believed in myself first. If I would have never taken advantage of the opportunities
that were provided to me by Jack & Jill Children’s Center I would have never made it where I am today.
I would like to say thank you a million times over again to Jack & Jill Children’s Center and everyone
who supports them.”
TURNING OVER
Because of supporters like you, Ashley has become a better parent, learned money management and

the necessary professional skills she needed to become a full time caseworker with the Department of
Children and Families. Her entire family is being lifted out of poverty. We are so happy to announce
that in August of 2018, Ashley was given the opportunity to transfer to DCF in Atlanta, and her
husband was able to find work in a school system as a maintenance supervisor. Ashley is even looking
forward to purchasing a home this year because housing is more affordable in the Atlanta area.
