Personal experience, formulated around the need to deliver more
focussed cases for use in predominantly tutorial situations (See
Diagram 1), manifested in the writing of a series of cases of varying
lengths, for the sake of argument, ranked as case vignette, caselette
and traditional case study (See Diagram 2).
These
cases had
the
advantage
of allowing
specific
situations
or specific
pieces of
theory or
tools of
analysis to
be
addressed.

Consequently, the following shows the word count that we tended to
develop but didn’t treat as cast in stone when writing the short case
study.
The vignette case tended to be used at the earliest stage of the
module and was often used to examine a specific piece of theory or
specific diagnostic tool. The caselette put more meat on the bones
and allowed a more focussed depth of analysis and tended to be
used in the run up to the middle and latter part of the module. The
traditional case study tended to be used for final assessment
purposes.
These short case studies, as Diagram 1 shows, are a collection of
