Adidas
Makes A Monumental Mistake
We have all probably sent an email that
we wish we could immediately recall.
Adidas certainly did this following the
Boston Marathon in April 2017, when
they sent an email with the subject line:
"Congrats, you survived the Boston Marathon."
In 2013 three people were killed and 260 bystanders injured
in the bombing of the Boston Marathon when two bombs
exploded near the finish line. At least two survivors from the
2013 attack were known to have participated in the 2017
race.
Adidas, the official sponsors of the Boston marathon, was
chastised on social media, and they immediately apologised
for sending the email praising runners who had "survived"
the 2017 Boston Marathon. It admitted that its choice of
words had been "insensitive" and said it was "incredibly
sorry" for sending the document.
In a statement, Adidas said the annual race "is one of the
most inspirational sporting events in the world" and a
reminder "of the hope and resiliency of the running
community".
