Case Study Analysis
WHAT IS CASE STUDY ANALYSIS?
A case study presents a story about a business, an industry
or a situation that may have occurred over a few months or
a number of years. It chronicles the events that managers
had to deal with, such as changes in the competitive
environment, and charts the managers' response, which
usually involved changing the business’ strategy.
As has already been seen in the Case Method there is no is
no one correct answer to any case study analysis. Like life
cases are open to interpretation on how to solve problems
they display. Individuals will consequently, bring their own
unique interpretation to bear on cases analysis with the
result that there is no single answer.
A consequence of this is that it becomes incumbent on the
case user to develop reflective thinking where they view the
case situation from multiple perspectives e.g. the different
players in the case or its broad stakeholder groups that
have an interest or input in the case. The result is that these
possible solutions need to be assessed in terms of their
advantages and limitations and the best or possibly least
destructive chosen. The user needs therefore to take a
position and justify it. It should go without saying that the
user should know the case backwards and forwards
before they start their analysis.
