When Coca Cola tried to wish a happy New Year to its
customers around the world on Friday, January 1 , 2016, it

made a major online faux-pas. It sent a message to Russians
with a map, as part of an Orthodox Christmas card
uploaded to the company’s official page on VKontakte,
Russia’s most popular social network, network, using a map
that did not include the Crimean Black Sea peninsula, which
Russia had annexed in March 2014.
