The Russians were not best pleased and after a wave of

criticism from Russian nationalists the map was changed

and the company commented “Dear community members,

we sincerely apologize for this situation! The map has been

corrected! We hope you will understand.”

So, in order to recover the situation Coke had reissued the
map with Crimea added and for good measure, the new

map also included the Kuril Islands, the western Pacific

archipelago that Moscow seized in 1945 from Japan, and
which it still claims.

However, the citizens in Ukraine were not enamored with
the reissued map resorting to social media to issue a

barrage of insults, and threatening to boycott the company

in a wave of disquiet. This was accompanied by the
vehemently trending #BanCocaCola hashtag, a campaign

which also found support amongst regional politicians.
