Pressure Groups
Pressure groups come in many guises,
Greenpeace,
Trades Unions,
Amnesty International,
RSPCA,
OXFAM
and so on. A pressure group seeks to influence government policy or
protect or advance a particular cause or interest. This is the
fundamental feature of all. The actions of all are based in altering
public opinion and government policy through advancing their
individual causes or political or ideological objectives.
The following two boxed examples highlight how PETRA attempted to
influence the cause of animal welfare. Some successful, some less so.
