Strategic Management Model
In this section the work of Igor Ansoff will be used in diagrammatic form
to illustrate the key elements of the corporate planning process. The
model developed serves a number of purposes, but essentially it aids the
creation of awareness.
Although iterative in nature the model is nevertheless, prescriptive in
outlook. Recognition of this is accepted here as the objective is to allow
the reader to develop an understanding of the components that underpin
the strategic management process. In a sense they are the building
blocks that may be developed and augmented as we progress through
the resource.
In order to exist the organisation must be able to adapt to its environment
i.e. the amoeba boundary will re-shape itself. Therefore, the system must
have aims and objectives.
In essence corporate planning is nothing more than a systems approach to
organisations.
DEFINITION -
"Corporate planning is a systematic
approach to clarify corporate objectives,
make strategic decisions and check
progress towards achieving these goals."
"A corporate plan is a set of instructions to
management of an organisation describing
what role each constituent part is expected
to play in the relation of the organisations'
corporate objectives."
