Your O Mahony Council is hard at work planning our 2025 70th Anniversary events as well as implementing our goals to better serve you,
our membership. In the near future, look for announcements confirming:
• The return of the member forum tab to our website. A member-only tab, this will be a great way to share pertinent information
with each other, including GED Match numbers, family stories, and more.
• Regular virtual events highlighting O Mahony and Irish history, culture, and genealogy topics. The speakers we have should be
able to provide (approximately) quarterly lectures on topics of interest to all.
• A 2025 North American Get-Together in the Boston, Massachusetts area, probably in November. Council member Dan Mahoney
is diligently leading the efforts to coordinate this event, one that many who cannot cross the pond for an Irish Gathering will be
able to enjoy and further embrace our “O Mahonicity.”
We invite all O Mahony Society members to enjoy the exciting 70th year events. We further invite you to set a goal of recruiting one new
member in our 70th year. The benefits of membership continue to grow every year.
Let’s spread the good word and embrace the OMS motto: Lasair romhainn go buadh (carry the flame before us in victory)!
Sláinte!

2024 O MAHONY SOCIETY
Annual Gathering In Ireland
The 69th annual O Mahony Society Gathering in Ireland took place 21-23 June 2024 in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland.
Headquarters was at Coolcower House, Macroom, West Cork. The annual rally took place at nearby Gougane Barra.
We are delighted to bring you news of the 2024 Ireland Gathering from OMS Member Patrick Michael Mahoney!
Patrick Michael Mahoney
I recently traveled to Ireland to attend my first O Mahony clan gathering. It was an amazing series of events that enriched me and significantly
increased my understanding of not only the Irish history but also our clan history.
One might call this sojourn a “pilgrimage” as compared to a family reunion. A pilgrimage is generally referred to as a “religious or spiritual”
event; those kinds of events deliver a profound experience that reaches into your very soul. Well, the O Mahony clan gathering did just that, in an
experience that touched me in ways I’m still trying to comprehend.
A bit of perspective is in order. When I was a young boy, my grandfather (Cornelius Daniel Mahoney) and my family elders would discuss
their travels to Ireland. My grandfather would visit and tell the “tales” of his election as the first American Taoiseach. He was so proud of his
election to lead the clan counsel. The year was 1975, and he was re-elected in 1976 for a second term. (See O Mahony Journals 1975, and 1976).
He attended many clan gatherings, as did my great aunt and uncles and many of my cousins in the years to follow. The stories continued for years
through the family. Time passed as did the memories of the events as the elders passed on. The clan gathering had remained on my to-do list as
the family commentary on the instant friendships that had been formed and continued for years endured.
As I began to think about traveling through Ireland and asking for input, I was reminded to rejoin the O Mahony Society. As a past
member, I’d forgotten all about it for no other reason than just a busy life. I logged on, saw the dates for this year’s clan meeting towards
the end of June, and thought, “If not now, then when?” With a few clicks, I rejoined the O Mahony Society, booked my accommodations and
airfare and it was done.
I had no idea about what to expect, other than the events scheduled over the weekend. Upon arriving at the host site at the Coolcower House
