VIRTUAL LECTURE
"Settlement patterns of the O'Mahony Clan from the early 1800s"
Presented by Margaret Murphy of the Skibbereen Heritage Centre, Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland
O Mahony Society Members and friends from throughout the world joined us virtually on
Sunday, 9 June 2024, for a fascinating focus on the O Mahony Clan origins. Examining
the disbursement of the O Mahony Clan from the 1800s onwards, reviewing Diocesan
records for the six counties of Munster (Cork, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and
Waterford), and land records from 1830 - 1850, all with a special focus on Cork and its
surrounding counties made for a fascinating and informative presentation.
Margaret Murphy has worked at Skibbereen Heritage Centre since 2002. An avid
genealogist and local historian, Margaret has helped many thousands of visitors to find
their West Cork ancestry and is a co-author of the publication “Stories of the Revolution.”
This virtual session exceeded previous 9Substantial) attendance records and participant
feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Our profound thanks go to Margaret Murphy.
Members can access Margaret’s full presentation on the O Mahony Society website at www.omahonysociety.com/lectures.
Watch the O Mahony Society website and Facebook page for additional virtual sessions coming in 2025 as a feature of our 70th
Anniversary Celebration!
